Rockbands and Pop Groups

Play in a Band, Write, Sing or Record New Songs for CD or iTunes!! For voice, songwriters, electric/acoustic guitars, keyboards/piano, drums, and electric violin. For 12th Grade down to Kindergarten. Bands organized by age and level.

BANDS

Bands are separated by age or grade, but more advanced players will be given parts that match their skill level. You will choose if you want to be in a Rockband OR a Pop Group, or if you want to play both styles. You can choose if you want to write new songs or just play them. You can come up with a name for your band, and this year, musicians will be considered for "Best Band", "Best Original Song", "Best Instrumentalist" and "Best Vocalist" awards. Options to enter in State and National Competitions. Your new band will not only learn to play together in perfect harmony, but you'll explore different styles, as well as finding your sound." You may already have an instrument-especially if you're a singer!- but purchases are extremely affordable through this band program: guitars, real lightweight portable drum sets and digital keyboards do not cost in the low thousands as many believe-they are in the low $100s when you mention Yorkville's band program. Call Dan Physics at The Guitar Center: 212-463-8328. For lightweight portable keyboards, you can ask for the YPG-235 76-key Yamaha. Since we are an ongoing program, an instrument is a worthwhile investment.       [ top of page ]

Singers and Songwriters will get together with members from our different bands to sing, play or hear your songs played and recorded on CD or iTunes, and you'll work with the latest computer programs for composing that will make songwriting great fun! You'll have the choice to enter your songs in local, state and national competitions for awards and prizes, and your songs may be chosen to be performed at special events. No instrument required, and no songwriting experience necessary. The focus will be on writing good, original melodies, lyrics, harmonies and rhythms. You may bring your laptop to rehearsal and be taught to work with a song-writing program such as "finale notebook." Or you may also be interested in playing a guitar while you sing. Or you can get a keyboard that you can hook up with a laptop. The laptop songwriting program will translate what's in your head into files, and a printer will print out sheet-music for any instrument you like!       [ top of page ]
